Wildfires In Canada And Alaska Drive Thousands From Homes:
“Extreme.” “Unprecedented.” “Historic.” Those are just a few of the words being used to describe the start of this year’s fire season in North America.
The wildfires are centered in the northwest of the continent, but their consequences are far-reaching. Thick smoke has blanketed parts of Wisconsin and North Dakota. It’s triggered air alerts in Minnesota and Montana and muddied skies as far south as Tennessee and Colorado.
And, of course, things are even worse at the source.

The Oregon Department of Forestry will tighten fire-prevention restrictions in 12 central Oregon counties, officials said Wednesday. The restrictions go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
“We are at a point where new wildfires are growing quickly and becoming more difficult and expensive to control,” district forester George Ponte said. “These restrictions are intended to eliminate human-caused fires as we will soon be busy enough with lightning-caused fires.”

‘A raging Northern California wildfire sparked by lightning has scorched 1,000 acres and prompted mandatory evacuations because of weather forecasts.
‘The Saddle fire started about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, northwest of Hyampom, according to the U.S. Forest Service. It was sparked in a lightning storm brought on by remnants of Tropical Storm Blanca, and firefighters have not been able to contain it.
‘The fast-moving fire ran uphill Thursday, consuming logs and tall grass as it moved southwest.
‘The Trinity County Sheriff’s Department ordered evacuations for residents who live along Lower South Fork Road, north of Big Slide Campground to Manzanita Ranch. Hyampom residents were under advisory evacuation.
‘An evacuation center was set up at Hayfork High School.
‘Fire officials say they are concerned about a high-pressure system that will be building over the blaze for the next seven days, likely bringing north winds.’ This same article continues here:

As you may have heard, there was severe rain and deluge like rains in Queeensland Australia, similar to what we saw last week in Texas. Appears climate change is here to stay. Someone wrote, to let us know JUST HOW well the Cobra acted against severe flooding and high water.

We’ve never seen so many trees down, lots of home smashed in half or worse add to that the blown in garage, factory doors.
(We) had ‘a call from a customer who lives lakeside on Lake Macquarie that (a CleverSeal employee) Steve fitted a COBRA to on his boat shed door using 50mm brush, using that length to cut‐out around the tracks for his boat ramp.
‘The last storm this size, the guy had lake water inside and it caused all his freezers/fridges to short out and he told us that he went to see how bad he was flooded……
‘High water mark on the door 50mm above the top of the COBRA…
Inside just a small strip of salt water, no flooding!!!

To quote a study by Gaier and Berkebile of the Glenn Research Center in Ohio: ‘NASA/TM—2012-217213 10, from March 2012–AIAA–2012–0875: ‘Implications of Adhesion Studies for Dust Mitigation on Thermal Control Surfaces
‘Brushing Experiments: Concern was raised during the Apollo program about the effect that lunar dust would have on thermal control surfaces, particularly with regard to the radiators on the LRVs which were used on the last three missions.
A study was published that evaluated the effectiveness of different types of brushes in removing lunar soil and dust. Using soil returned from Apollo 12, they concluded that a nylon bristle brush would be effective to remove dust from the LRV radiator, and return it to nominal function. Five different nylon bristle brushes were tested that varied in bristle diameter, bristle length, brush configuration, and bristle packing density’.
Four other bristle materials … were tested for comparison’… varied in bristle diameter, length, configuration, and density. ‘The nylon bristle removed more than 90 percent of the dust and PTFE bristle removed nearly 80 percent of the dust from AZ93, as determined by particle counting. … The carbon bristle brush was found to be ineffective, but fiberglass and nylon brushes were found to be equally effective.
Both the fan brush and round brush designs proved to be more effective than the strip brushes tested in the first stage. Longer bristles were found to be more effective at removing dust than shorter bristles, though the effect seems less important than brush material.
